Six Simple Machines is a company which was started in 2012 by UNSW Industrial Design and Engineering graduates. We build a milk dispenser for cafes called The Juggler and we are now expanding into the US and UK cafe markets. http://www.sixsimplemachines.com.au/
We currently have a full time position available. We are hoping to find someone who has similar skills and out look as our own to come and join our team.
The role is varied and incorporates technical tasks which include; hands on field installation and technical support, factory based assembly tasks, preparation for dispatch and other manufacturing type jobs. It also incorporates design and engineering tasks supporting ongoing R&D and customisation requests.
Being a small team, there is the potential for the role to evolve into a management type opportunity overseeing and co-ordinating service and production in Australia and elsewhere as we expand. But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves just yet!
This position is extremely important because it is a market facing representation of how our brand is perceived on a day to day basis. You will be in regular contact with customers, shopfitters and suppliers; so you need to be a people person. The position also plays a critical role at the core of our business because it directly informs the evolution of our products; so you also need to be perceptive and engaged.
Our vision of the ideal candidate is pretty much a description of us when we were students. We had solid practical hand skills, reasonable computer skills but most importantly we had a positive can-do attitude. We saw design as one of many factors that must combine tin order for a product to become successful. This all hold true to this day.

In 2016, three Australian teams entered the competition and two were finalists – they were sent to Tokyo to present their projects at the Forum8 Design Festival.
This year the location for the competition is Yangon in Myanmar.
In the VDWC, teams of students compete to design an innovative model for a real urban plan and present it virtually. This may be approached from various angles – urban design, architecture, BIM, sustainability, transport planning, etc – and ideally the teams comprising 3 or more students have a mix of skills.
This year the topic for the competition is Yangon, Myanmar.
- Forum8 provides a base 3D model and loans a range of software for the duration of the project.
- Registration is open now until June 21.
- Students have 5 months to complete the project – due October 4.
- Training by webinar etc (or possibly face-to-face in Australia) is provided for each software
- Team members of shortlisted projects are invited to Tokyo at Forum8 expense to participate in the final judging and awards presentation, which this year will be in mid November.
- There are monetary prizes for the winning teams.
Details on the project are online now: http://vdwc.forum8.co.jp/English/
